Loveland, Co to Grand Junction, CO

We had a bit of the nerves today about our journey over the Rockies. We had the Eisenhower Tunnel to go through as well as three large mountain passes. As there was a height limit for the tunnel, John and Rick went out to buy a 2 x 4 and used the board to measure the heights of the rigs. Our rig is 12 foot 11 inches tall and Rick and Y's is 12 foot 10 inches. Both rigs are well below the 13 foot 11 inch height limit for the tunnel. Good information to know in any case.

On our way down I-25, we saw this hot air balloon floating in the sky. Couldn't resist a shot of the Rockies in the background. All I could think of was how cold it had to have been up in the basket.
Heading west on I-70 - we've got to get over those mountains.
Already some skiers/snowboarders are taking advantage of the snow.
Beautiful fall colors
The route took us through Glenwood Canyon which was absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately, we were driving into the sun so the pictures through the windshield had to much glare and didn't turn out good enough to post. The interstate travels along the Colorado River and in the canyon itself, the west bound lanes seem to be over the east bound lanes. It was an interesting engineering feat.

We met up with Rick and Y for a lunch break. The big mountain passes were done without any hitches and faster than originally thought. We all agreed that we wouldn't want to drive that interstate in a snow storm.
After lunch, it was on to Grand Juction, CO for the night. We pulled into Junction West RV Park and got settled in. The RV park was a nice overnight stop with wide sites; truly big rig friendly. We went out to dinner at Famous Daves and had some good BBQ. After filling up our tanks, we then filled up the tank of the truck. We are ready to head to Moab!
