Countdown begins

We are all set to leave Tucson on Friday, April 6.  How do you spell hitch itch?  We are soooo ready to get the wheels rolling.

Not too much to write about although we (Rick, Y, John, and myself) went up to Phoenix to attend the Good Sam Rally on the 22nd and 23rd.  We picked up a few goodies and looked at some of the rigs.  Not in the market ourselves but did check out the custom builders that Rick and Y are considering for their next rig.

We spent the right at a Red Roof Inn and weren't at all impressed with the motel (no blow dryer or coffee maker - really?).  I know we got a discount rate via Hotels.com but those two items seem like such basic items they should be included in all rooms these days.  I was able to go to the Front Desk and get a blow dryer to use.  Sheesh.  The mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable.  We were more than happy to get home to our own bed.

We ran in to friends, Steve and Michelle, at the GS Rally on Friday and made arrangements to meet for lunch before we headed back to Tucson.  We had a good time and a lot of laughter was shared.

The past few days it has been getting awfully warm.  We broke down yesterday and turned on the air conditioners when we left to run some errands.  The past few days without AC had left us feeling so lethargic come late afternoon. Whoo hoo, when we returned home, it was sure nice to come in to a cool rig.  Can we say it is a dry heat - 7% humidity.  No wonder I am using up the hand cream LOL.

The saguaro's and cactus are starting to get buds on them but it looks like we will miss their blooms this year that is perfectly ok with us.

We will be heading up to Prescott for a week where it will be cooler, will check out the town, and visit with friends Bruce and Jenna who just gave up their wandering ways by buying a home and settling down there.  Then we are off to the Grand Canyon for a few days.

Love this ~

Found this on the internet and love it.  It is called the Holstee Manifesto.  The older I get the more these words resonant with me.  Too bad this only comes  poster size because I would get one but alas, too big.

Enjoying life

Here it is March and February is now just a memory.  My goodness.  So what have we been up to?  Well, we've been to Reid Park Zoo and found it to be a nice place to explore.  We had gone there in December for Zoo Lights and the place was dark except for Christmas lights so it was definitely different seeing it in bright sunshine.  We saw this male peacock strutting his beautiful colors which caught the eye of a giraffe who rushed over and tried to take a bite of his tail.  The peacock jumped and all of us watching cracked up.

The four of us, Rick, Y, John, and I, went up to Mesa on the 24th to see the Mesa Marketplace which is like a flea market but with some really nice stuff.  If we didn't live in an RV, I would have loved some of the beautiful wall coverings we saw.  We did buy something.  I think you will understand why this turned John's head and why it is hanging in our RV.

After saying goodbye to friends, Bruce and Jenna, we were standing in front of our site when we saw this truck with two kayaks come down the road.  John made some comment about it and low and behold, it was friends Steve and Michelle whom we met in Custer, SD.  They were checking out the park as they had reservations to come in on Tuesday.  We were able to spend some time visiting before they headed off for Phoenix to watch Spring practice games.  Steve recently retired from the railroad and they are now on the road enjoying being full timers.

John and I had a rare "date night" on the 25th with dinner and live entertainment called Carnival of Illusion.  We were celebrating the 31st anniversary of our first date.  Sigh, I know . . . LOL what can we say, the date is special to us because it all started that one evening.

John has been saying that he wanted to go see the DeGrazia Gallery in the Sun. What?? We don't normally do art galleries but for some reason he wanted to see the home of acclaimed Arizona artist Ted DeGrazia.  So with the tease that it was "free" and lunch was in it for me, off we went toward the foothills of the Catalina Mountains.  We watched a film on DeGrazia and learned a bit about his painting style and his muses, the construction of his home and the adobe mission that DeGrazia built in honor of Padre Kino and the Virgin of Guadalupe and got to view many of his paintings.  It was an interesting way to spend an afternoon.

We have seen friends, Jerry and Darlene, head off to other parts and soon friends, Ralph and Cheryl, will be leaving.  It is once again that time of year when people start heading back to their homes up north or for new adventures.  As for us, we will be having to stay here in Tucson until the end of April as John has some blood work that needs to be redone mid-April. Nothing to be concerned over but will need to stay put longer than we had planned.
