Last night we went to bed to the lovely desert sounds of coyotes. We were then woken up with the sound of a helicopter flying low over the desert that went on for hours. We learned from our friends that a child had ran away from home in the town of Bouse so the police were searching the desert. No idea if the child was found. With the sleep interruption, we were able to hear the coyote's howling and yipping whenever we woke up. Then the power went off. The refrigerator always lets you know because it starts to beep and it ALWAYS wakes me up. The power was off for several hours.
We were standing at the kitchen windows looking out at the birds when all of a sudden, less then 100 feet from our rig, there was this big kitty. It took several seconds for the brain to connect what the eyes were seeing - a mountain lion. It definitely walked like a cat and it didn't look like it was missing any meals. It stopped and rolled in the dirt and then kept on walking. By the time we thought to grab the camera, the mountain lion was moving out of sight. We didn't get a picture because our long lens is not working correctly. DARN! We had always hoped that we would see a mountain lion in the wild at a safe distance but in the safety of our rig ... Wow!
John emptied and cleaned our water heater as it was starting to make noise. The well water here is very hard and boy, did heater have mineral deposits. Since being drained and rinsed, the water heater is back being quiet while it does it job.
After enjoying the afternoon sunshine, eating dinner, and watching a little TV, it was time to call it a night.
